Description

Tech Talent South is a coding bootcamp and technology education program with locations throughout the southern and southeastern United States. Currently, the bootcamp has locations in Asheville, Charlotte, Dallas, Columbus, Hartford, New Orleans, Raleigh, Wilmington, Winston-Salem, San Antonio, and Atlanta. The Atlanta campus hosts multiple coding bootcamps and education programs. The flagship coding bootcamp at Tech Talent South is an immersive program designed to cover web and application development. The bootcamp also offers a short-term data analysis workshop. Tech Talent South is a coding bootcamp designed for beginners, and no extensive coding experience is required to enter the program. The primary course also includes application deployment training to help students launch their products into the market.

Additional Info

The curriculum varies widely between courses. The primary coding bootcamp covers a range of coding languages, most of which specialize in web development and application building. The primary course is designed with six major curriculum categories: Ruby, Rails, HTML/CSS, APIs, deployment, and domain modeling. Students begin with the basics of coding and web development and move on to more complicated subjects. The course covers HTML and CSS in-depth, along with object-oriented programming with Ruby. The course notes that available stacks will vary between campuses. Students also learn Rails alongside Ruby, and how to use it to prototype database-driven apps. Students will use external APIs to utilize data from third-parties for their applications. Additionally, students will learn how to deploy their app with Heroku and work on domain modeling with Rails. Coding languages and topics covered during the primary coding bootcamp include Ruby on Rails, CSS, jQuery domain modeling, databases, model associations, GitHub, HTML, JavaScript, deployment, Ruby Gems, Git, Bootstrap, and APIs.

Most programs at the Atlanta Tech Talent South bootcamp run for four or eight weeks, with the exception of the six-week iOS development course. The full-time and part-time immersive coding bootcamps run for eight weeks, as does the JavaScript course and the introductory web design and creation course. The UX design course runs for four weeks. Students in the full-time immersive coding bootcamp will spend 4.5 hours in class Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Part-time coding students will attend class from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Monday and Wednesday. Other programs follow a similar schedule, such as the UX design course. UX design students attend classes from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday.

Currently, Tech Talent South offers very little information in regard to student outcomes or job placement statistics. However, the program is designed to prepare students for an entry-level tech job or to help existing professionals pick up the skills they need for a career change.

Tuition varies between courses at Tech Talent South, and course options vary between locations. The flagship immersive coding bootcamp is available in Atlanta and costs $6,750. The school also offers an introductory website design and creation bootcamp in Atlanta for $2,250. The part-time immersive coding bootcamp costs $4,750, and the iOS development course costs $3,250. A JavaScript course is also available in Atlanta for $1,850. The course also offers a ‘Next Level Rails” bootcamp for $3,200. The UX design course costs $2,220. Students can also take advantage of several tuition discounts.  For example, students who pay off their balance before the start of the immersive coding course can receive a discount. Scholarships are also available.

We were lucky to have such a dedicated staff and very attentive instructor. You can feel the passion he has for programming and learning. With this course, I wanted to grow my backend skills and learning and the focus on Java/Spring Boot was exactly what I needed.

I know my title reads Java boot camp but we didn’t just focus on Java. We learned to become full-stack developers. I started with no coding experience in my previous careers. I did allot of technical jobs. I jumped into this boot camp with The hopes of getting a great job right our of the boot camp. However, while doing the first day introductions, there were allot of people there with a few boot camps under their belts. This made me a bit nervous seeing as this was my first one. I did everything I could to absorb as much as my brain could possibly handle. I impressed my instructor with my dedication. Alas this wasn’t enough to land me an actual job. I was taught to use HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and Thymeleaf to make my apps and websites pretty. I was taught to use Spring Boot for Java as back-end programming. I learned how to create a Github profile and upload my Java projects. I was given the ability to create my own website. I fought to go to class everyday to learn for 3 months. It was an in person class from 8am-5pm. We all had to put our primary jobs on hold or cut back on the hours to be in the class. This is a major need to know before jumping into any boot camp. Have a savings that can hold you up for 3 months or at least a support system that can have you work some hours without drowning in debt. This may seem ridiculous or an outlandish tip. But I speak from experience, I no longer have a vehicle due to my lack of hours and lack of employment for 3 months. I had been struggling before the class. I did look at this class as a bright light to all the over whelming debt I had been consumed by. Realistically, some financial stability is key to be able to join any boot camp. Good luck.
And may the odds be ever in your Favor.

Tech Talent South in New Orleans, LA was a perfect fit for my needs. Other programs in the city were just not an option due to the scheduling demands, and also tuition cost. I was working my regular full time job while attending, so having the option to attend the part time code immersion program was great. The instructor was an actual developer, and not just a teacher, so his real world insight was awesome. The instructor was very approachable, available, and eager to help. You could tell he really wanted you to understand before moving forward, instead of just blasting through the material. Probably the best aspect of this particular school, in New Orleans specifically was the local community development leader, Mary. She puts together tours of local tech companies, schedules guest speakers before class, and puts together events around town. These tours, speakers, and events were fantastic especially being that I am making a transition into tech from a completely different industry. The people I’ve met, and the advice that I received has been tremendous! This alone is worth attending the school. As far as the curriculum goes, I would only say that I would like to see the part time program be extended. It was an 8 week course, which I’m fine with, but given that class was only twice a week, I feel like if it was longer, that would give more time to dive into different subjects a little deeper. For anyone looking to attend their part time program, I would recommend finding your favorite resource to go in tandem with what you are covering in class. You do have homework while going through, which is helpful, but for me it helped to solidify things hearing the same things said a different way. Like all things in life, nothing is a proverbial golden ticket. Your success will ultimately come down to the work that you put in. There is no job guarantee after graduation. However, this shouldn’t hinder you, because the industry does hold bootcamp graduates in high esteem, because you come out of it with direct experience in the things that you will work with on the job. Do the work, attend the events, and network, and you will be successful. Like Grant Cardone says, “The only limit to the amount of success you have is the amount of action you take.” This program has been fantastic in my opinion I definitely recommend it to anyone looking into it in the New Orleans area.

The audacious training supersedes tradition education, which works best for me as a non-traditional student 60 plus. My take away from the 8-week training is that I am in the “know” on the express high-way of technology. Before attending TTS training, it was just a dream, now it is a reality, and it has allowed me to step up my own game as it relates to my own Content Building and Branding Business. Therefore, the TTS training polished my ability to have confidence in identifying my own leadership qualities when speaking with clients, networking, and engaging in technology conversations. I am still a work in progress. Nonetheless, I have obtained CSS HTML and UX Design skills and I continue to perfect the concepts in ways that I amaze myself.
